Tone is the way you say the word. How you put certain emphasis on syllables.
You use your voice to use different tones.

Honestly, I can't carry a tone never mind sing! I'll talk your ear off! But your question has an answer. It is one answer that does not and will not ever apply to me! I wish it would but I can't carry a tone/tune if my life depended on it! OH WELL!!! I guess that's why I was given the gift of gab!!!

If you're referring to speech, tone like in Chinese, means that the word or sentence may drop (as at end of sentence in English) or rise as in a question, drop and rise, or stay constant.
