My mom always comes with me to my physicals and sits in the room during it. I'm in high school. Are there many moms who do that, and are you sons OK with it.

Matt, you don't mention, but is your Dad in the picture? It may be that you Mum is trying to be both parents, and feels she should be there.

I am trying to remember when my son had his appendix out - he was in high school and while I took him to the doctor, and spoke to the doctor, I was not in the room while the examination took place.

However, there is also the question of protection - your mother may have had an unfortunatel/bad experience at some time with a doctor and may feel she has to protect you.

Best advice I can give, as a mother, is talk to your mother about it. She may just not see her little boy is growing up!

This is a tough one for Moms - knowing when to let go. My oldest son completely put me on the spot when he decided that he didn't want me going in the examining room with him - right at the last minute he looked me right in the eye and, very nicely, said, "I'd like some privacy Mom. Would you please wait here." If you are dealing with a medical condition then reassure your Mom that you know what to ask and will let her know what the doctor said. Another good alternative is for her to come in AFTER the exam is finished and you've had one-on-one time with your doctor (Mom's worry about their kid's health - it's just part of their job description). This would reassure her that any of her questions or concerns will be answered. Good luck

Hey Matt - I just glanced at your profile and was surprised to see that you have been asking various forms of this question for the past several days and that it is the ONLY question you have been asking. You also have both an email and IM addresss that is specific to this subject. Could you please explain?

Matt, I have 4 sons, ages 8, 12, 15, 18, and I do go in with the 8 year old and 12 year old, with the older two as long as I am able to talk to the Dr if its health related and not just a physical. I respect their privacy and dignity, as I know they are uncomfortable with me in the room, I usually ask my 12 year old if he feels okay with me in there before I decide to go, and he has not problem with it, but when he does tell me it makes him feel uncomfortable, I will wait outside and talk to his Dr.

i guess there is nothing wrong but a male can sometimes be unconfortable because their moms still treat them like children i guess. or its plain embarassing to have mommy there..

You are bound to get uncomfortable in this way. I guess your mom is an incest. Try to discourage her.
