the best amp would be a 3zillion quiddollar tube fractal amp no really what is it he wants to play, rock music covers a multitude and possibly with digital technology you can get virtually any sound out of mediocre equipment. I'm amazed at what I get with a digitech guitar processor or even a pignose used as a pre-amp gives interesting possibilities . You don,t necessarily need mega watts any more Unless he is doing a stadium tour

You guys need to learn to state "I want to spend up to $XY00.-" in these questions... try some amps up to 30W, preferably with a 12" speaker for more bass - Line 6 Spyder II or II are great, around $200 - 300. Small Crates are also around $250, and awesome. There are two smaller models, one by Randall and one by Alesis (Wioldfire 15 and 30, I think) that will also be good for many years of playing - as in, all those are pro-quality sound, pretty much. Check musiciansfriend.com or music123.com for all those.
Ah, yeah - that little 35W Orange looks sweet, too.
