Look up FDR!
Widely considered the second greatest president in history, and by far above anyone else in the 20th century.
He didn't let polio stop him, and he was far from handsome. I'm far from handsome, and I have a number of friends that would follow me through hell and beyond. Just strive to be the best you can, and you will do well regardless.

Everyone is beautiful and has something unique within them that no other person has. I think you are being very hard on yourself. If you have got to the stage where you are a leader than obviously you have already earn respect. People will respect you for getting into a leadership position and will look upon you as a leader to be respected. You only have to keep that respect now. They will expect a lot of wise advise from you, so you should really try to get rid of the negative feeling you have about yourself. Indeed, maybe a lot of your group are looking up to you for positiveness and encouragement so give them a lot of that and they will so much appreciate you. Keep up the strength and be the best you can.

There's a lot of societal messages about being beautiful and having the 'perfect' body, and it 's hard not to feel self-conscious about body imperfections, esp. if you are on the younger side of life (sounds like you are...). Find more ways to respect yourself, your skills and abilities, your intelligence -- it starts with self-respect. Eventually you will realize that we are more than just our bodies, we are also our minds and spirits and don't have to identify as much with what our body looks like or can/cannot do. The 'others' may not know it yet, but they are temporarily able-bodied. If a person lives long enough they will eventually have to face having one or more disabilities in old age. Respect takes time to build -- just do the very best you can as a person and a leader and it will fall into place. There always a few who may not give you the respect no matter what, crippled or not. That's OK -- don't worry about those folks. In my view, some of the best leaders are those who know how to bring out the strengths in others and encourage cooperation. Best of luck to you.

The way to earn respect is to be yourself, treat people fairly and kind. Don't let 'leadership' go to your head as many people do. It's not beauty and looks, it's what is inside that counts, you know that. Just because you are crippled doesn't take away from your intellect and abilities to guide and help people. Should anyone hold physical appearances against anyone, that's on them and the are shallow and black hearted.

How do you know you are not beautiful. You are seeing yourself as a cripple, but obviously others see you differently. You do not have to be beautiful and perfect to be a leader. Your leadership comes from within. How many are perfect and beautiful and are stupid, or whatever comes out of their mouth is awful and unintelligent. Come on, give yourself a break. What should you do, look at yourself as others see you, a beautiful, strong leader, and one of wise words and those that people love to hear and trust.

Beauty and leadership have nothing in common. Look at history - President Lincoln was considered to be ugly and he had Parkinson's disease - and people still list him as one of the greatest Americans ever. President Roosevelt - was in a wheelchair and was not handsome - look at what all he accomplished. George W. Bush is retarded - and he has managed fairly well (just joking on that one)
Mother Theresa - not pretty on the outside, but was sooo beautiful on the inside that everyone loved her.
Lead by example. Be a beautiful person on the INSIDE - and people will flock to you.

well first, you have to realize that beauty and physical ability (or lack thereof) have nothing to do with being a respected leader. ask instead, how you can be a respected leader, period. because first, you must project confidence, and that only comes with acceptance of your self. only you can change the way others see you, but don't you think it's hard to believe in someone who doesn't believe in herself? good luck changing your mind.

First you should believe in yourself, then others will believe you. you should be confident and strong. the sense of leadership is a talent which comes from within, not from your look.
you are going to work by your mind, and not everyone can do so.
and, look at politicians, who is beautiful among them? But they control our life.
and look at around you, there are not so many who looklike angels!

When I think of a good leader, I don't think of beauty or necessarily the ability to walk! Be strong, make good decisions and be decisive - these are good qualities for a leader.

You have to use your intelligence and your words to inspire and direct people. Being a leader is about making good decisions and helping people you are in charge of be productive and efficient. It's not about having followers fawning over your beauty and drooling on themselves. Be smart, make good choices, and back up your decisions with sound reasoning.
