i've known of some people who could'nt play guitar, but when they hooked up the pedals they were playing like pros.

No. A pedal does not improve your playing. Certain pedals can make you sound cooler, reverb or distortion, but you will know what you really sound like. One thing will make you a better guitarist - practice, practice and more practice. Anything else is just cheating yourself.

Not at all. Putting a pedal on may make you play differently to fit the needs of what the pedal does well, like an octave pedal making single notes sound beefier.But that doesnt make you play any better.But just like anything else someone could be inspired by a sound, and write something they wouldnt have with a clean guitar.

even the simple stuff sounds better soaked in reverb. you can't play better, but what you play sounds cooler.
