A Democrat is a liberal while a Republican is a conservative.
The youth prefers the liberal while mature people likes the conservative. Religious groups prefer the conservative but hates the liberals for championing abortion and gay marriages.

Democrat- Hippie liberal Douche
Republican- Pissed off red neck
Republicans vote on large part either based on religious morals, since the Republican party is usually against abortions, gay marriage, and so forth. They also are the rich since most of their campaign support comes from the rich because the Republicans more often give larger tax breaks to the rich.
Democrats vote based more often on being liberals who think abortion, gay marriage and such things should be allowed. Also large portions of the Democrats are poorer classes who vote based on promised tax cuts that may happen or ideas to decrease unemployment. This group often loses alot of representation due to their own unwillingness to vote.

I dont feel like answering part 2 since part 1 took long to type and only gives a stereotyped narrow view of the whole thing.
