We used to go hunting for night crawlers to go fishing.
In the evening, take the garden hose and water the ground very well. That will get the worms to come up to the ground level. Worms also come out at night. If you go outside in the dark and shine a bright flash light at the wet ground, you will see worms laying on the ground or two stuck together (mating). If your quick you just grab them and gently pull them out of the hole so you don't break them in half. You can collect a lot and go fishing in the future.

Worms are very good for the soil. They eat old leaves and help fertilize the soil. Did you know that a worm has 7 hearts and thats why if it gets cut in half, both halves can live.

Growing up, "scrubbing worms" was almost as much fun as the actual fishing. Dad would drive a wooden stake, just a 1x4 about a foot and half long sharpened on one end, into the ground until about 6-8 inches remained then it would take the hand axe blade and scrub it back and forth across the top of the stake. the sound it produced(above ground) was similar to the creak of a rocking chair( with lots of bass!) Within a minute or two the worms would be leaping out of the ground. Underground its not the sound, it's the vibrations that drive them to the top. It's takes a little practice, but anyone can do it, provided there's worms around. Good Luck.

well, if you're wanting to catch them, the best way to do it is to hose down the ground and wait for a little while and they need air so they come to the top. the big ones come out at night and you have to walk slowly cuz they can feel vibrations. good luck

DO NOT USE the method of collecting earth worms using stakes connected to an electrical outlet....it has been deadly.....secondly it will be a short circuit if the rods touch......thirdly, very dangerous when kids are around....use a flashlight its more fun.......

Leave the little fellow there he is doing all the digging for you and he is leaving behind natural compost.
Worms are the best thing for your garden.

Soak the ground with water. They will be forced to come up for air, otherwise, they'd drown!
