You can have a degree in science and not be a scientist if you're not doing research. That's what really defines a scientist - someone who investigates questions (and hopefully publishes their results for the benefit of others).

Isn't a scientist someone who thinks scientifically? Having a degree doesn't do it. I know people with B.S. degrees who don't know their elbows from their ********. I wonder how they ever graduated in the first place.
The fact is, for example, You can take a P.E. test and, if you pass it, become a Professional Engineer without ever going to college.

Personally, I think scientist is a state of mind & self determined occupation. To think in a methodotical, logical, observant & innventive way with the same processes used to solve problems brands you a scientist, but only if you wished to be called so.

I think it greatly depends on your field of study: engineering, aeronautics, biology and so on.....

I think, (depending on the circumstances) if one just had a Bachelor's and was involved with research in a particular field, it wouldn't be too far of a strectch to call him/herself a scientist.
The whole labcoat-wearing, crazy-haired, wild-eyed personification we seem to associate with scientists just comes from our personal perceptions of people in that field.....and also from the Back to the Future movies:)

you must obtain at least a bsc in any of the sciences. But that is not enough. you must be a researcher of your perticular field. I mean you must be a researching in that science as a profession.
