Being female, I was mostly subject to bitching, not fisticuffs. It only happened once. I was hanging out by myself in my usual spot among the trees by the school oval, minding my own business, and these two boys decided it was a 'boys only' spot. I argued the point, and we agreed to a fight to decide it. Next thing I know, I've kicked the bigger of the two in the mouth and they're running away. Never bothered me again. Not the way my mum would've liked me to deal with it, I guess, but it was strangely gratifying.

Well, that's my story. Your turn.
