Yes. My reasons are many. So many bad things happen because of alcohol consumtion because people lose their judgment and do stupid things, plus the bad effects alcohol has on the body. I want to keep my judgment and be completely in control of myself and my actions. I don't want to risk my health and well-being for alcohol. And alcohol smells and tastes disgusting too.

Yes, I have promised myself the same and stuck with it so far (I'm in my mid-twenties).
My reasons... I'm mentally ill and I've been through a lot in my life (I was abused most of my life, among other things). I'm paranoid and for years I had built-up anger inside over the past. I'm afraid of what I might do if I got drunk. When I'm sober I can at least control myself and my judgment is ok. I've never drunk alcohol so I don't know what I'm like under influence and I'm afraid I might attack the one who abused me or do something crazy like that. I don't want to lose my life over something like that and although I'd have no sympathy for the abuser I don't want to hurt the others around me. I also don't know whether I'd get more paranoid under influence. So I stay sober to stay in control.
I also know that I have a very addictive personality and am at a very high risk for substance abuse, so I don't ever want to as much as try alcohol, drugs or tobacco. I stay away from it all.
This may sound shocking, but those are my honest reasons for not drinking alcohol. I wish the people around me would stop trying to pressure me into drinking and asking why I don't drink, because those are obviously not reasons I wish to share with people around me.
It's great that you're not going to drink. Stand firm by your decision and don't let people pressure you into anything. Stay strong. Good luck! :)

I made that same decision about 7 years ago aftert I learned of a tragedy of a young woman driving home from work in the rain for her sons 1st birthday, She never made it , a drunk driver lost control and killed her.
That had such an impact on me that I since have yet to consume any alcohol and I have become somewhat of a spokesperson for the don't drink and drive issue..

yes, several times. i love it too much though. i'm not an alcoholic - i have stopped for a few months before to give my body a break. as long as it doesnt interfere and cause problems in your life, i think it is ok. after all, you could get run over by a bus tomorrow!
