If she read the Artemis Fowl series, she must have read Harry P.
Perhaps the Hobbit and the trilogy of the ring by Tolkein?
Has she read The once and Future King by T.H. White? Although it may be a little more mature, how about The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley?
The novels of Barrayar by Lois McMaster Bujold, especially the first few in the series, Shard's of Honor, Barrayar, and The Warrior's Apprentice?
Or, the early novels of Robert Heinlein, often refered to as the Heinlein Juveniles:
Space Cadet
Farmer in the Sky
Between Planets
The Rolling Stones (aka: Space Family Stone)
Starman Jones
The Star Beast
Tunnel in the Sky
Time for the Stars
Citizen of the Galaxy
Have Space Suit—Will Travel
Podkayne of Mars
The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress
These all have a lot of adventure and romance. Tolkein, White, and Bradley are classical writers. Bujold is an incredible storyteller. Heinlein is a great storyteller, too, although his settings may be a little dated. But Tunnel in the Sky and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress are wonderful adventures for her age group.
All of these are available at any decent library.
Good Luck, and have fun!

If she's read the Artemis Fowl series I assume she likes fanatasy.
Some good books I'd suggest are:
The Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce (anything by her really) These books are the story of Alanna, a girl who doesn't want to be brought up as a lady so she swaps places with her twin brother and, dressed as a boy becomes a page at the palace while her brother trains to be a mage. Lots of magic and adventure.
Books by Tamora Pierce though are very good. The Immortals Series as well as the Trickster's Choice series are really good too (by Tamora Pierce).
Other than that I'm not sure. I can't remember other books that I read then that really stood out... The only other ones I remember are ones I've read recently which would probably be a bit too old for her (I'm now 17).
Good Luck finding books

When I was her age I loved the books about survival. You might try these:
Anything by Madeline L'Engle (young adult fantasy)
Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George
Island of the Blue Dolphin by Scott O'Dell
And the books of Karen Cushman, which are WONDERFUL!! I am 35 and still read them, although they are more geared toward girls your niece's age.
Good luck!
