I have this same thing happen from time to time as well. It just did so that is what brought me to your question. I have also seen this question from someone that has Firefox so it must not be the browser and more likely the website. I was on an MSNBC article and when I went to try to navigate back to the MSN homepage it wouldn't let me and kept opening the same article. I have the new malwarebytes AVG2014 and Norton360 and have run them all. I noticed that when the tabs were opening one after the other that it sounded like my pop up blocker was blocking quite a few things as well. It I hate to say behaved like some of those sites from the mid 90's that kept opening new tabs only this was the same page over and over. I heard there is a fix for this from MS but do not know where to find it and have done an explorer update. Since firfox has reported this as well I am reluctant to switch just yet although I like it as well. Heard the new Firefox will be as bloated as Chrome and Explorer though.

Just follow these steps:
1. Disconnect your internet connection(unplug phone/DSl/Cable line, turnoff modem etc)
2. Run your antivirus(if you don't have one, get AVG free version)
3. Install Adaware Se personal edition and spybolt. Run both of them
4.Install firewall such as zonealarm free or kerio or outpost.
5. restart computer.
6. Right clck on internet explorer, properties, advanced, restore to defaults.
Now reconnect to internet and see what happens.

I also recommend use ccleaner(www.ccleaner.com) to clean up system junk and invalid registry)

I believe you've been hi jacked and have a Trojan. Try going to tools-Internet options-General-under home page, delete what's highlighted in Grey and type the home page you want-apply-OK. Close the browser and reopen, see what you get. Run all your protection spy ware, ad subtract, antispyware, ect. If none of this helps, you will need to do a recovery. I'd do a destructive recovery but that sucks.

It could be a malware, adware that is causing it. Your antivirus, antispyware program should be able to identify and remove it.

You probably ticked the little box in tools (internet options) for it to do so. If so untick it.
