They placed an ad in my University's newspaper, and they gave a website and phone number. I went to the website and I guess you have to buy a package that has like all bartending stuff in it... but nowhere on the site does it tell you how much it costs. has anyone done this? Does it really help you get jobs as a bartender? I'm a college student that needs a job!!

I spent $500 on a two-week bartending course in the 80's that didn't do squat for me. It was looked at in the business as a joke. We couldn't even get jobs as barbacks. It's better to just apply at a place and learn, learn, learn, ensuring the management knows you want to be a bartender.

The friend and I that did the bartending school together had a lot of bar experience as customers, but started to get concerned when they taught us how to make "Toasted Almond", "Mint Julep", "Rob Roy", "Grasshoppers", etc. Nothing new, just old time drinks. It was fun going in semi-loaded (our instructors were major partier's) and would actually bring in real liquor in the last week and we got to drink our mistakes. We passed, but it didn't help.

Save your money and take a job promoting up to a Bartender. That will get you further. And look at Bartender.com for the current trend in drinks and how to make what you like!

Good Luck.
