Malfunction is failure to indicate temperature

hey there it could be your heat sending sensor where your heat gauge hook's on to or it just could be your gauge it self or a bad wire i would suggest taking it in to a BMW dealer and have them take a look at it find out whats wrong for sure those BMW's are not cheap to fix.. taking it to a dealer for a BMW mechanic to look at is a good idea or to a garage you trust hope this helps you out a little good luck

You don't say exactly what the malfunction is, does it read really hot or not at all? The most common cause of gauges ceasing to function is bad earths or cable connections. Unless you are familiar with car wiring I suggest a trip to an auto electrician.
