I worked for Social Security for 32 yrs. Social Security Administration falls under no other dept or agency. It is its own agency. It used to be a part of Health & Human Services but that changed about 15 yrs ago or more.
If you have any Social Security questions either call 1-800-773-1213 or your local office. If you send a ltr or contact headquarters in Baltimore they will just refer you back to your local office; headquarters doesn't deal directly with claimants or beneficiaries.
