i never used a server before but if it is just like windows create a compressed zipped folder and place the files in it once u place them in it hide the original files in a hidden folder and set up your computer to not show hidden folders in the control panel or just put them in a place were no one goes and then go back to the compressed folder and open it and in the file menu it will say set password and u set yourself a password that you will be able to remember and your done good luck

mdf and ldf files are used in Microsoft Access database not MS SQL server.
If you are using Access you can usually set security from within it using Tools, Security. if you want to protect the actual files put them on a NTFS volume and set file permissions (A Windows serve will make this a heck of lot easier)
If you are using SQL then from within SQL Enterprise manager you should be able to right click on each database, properties and set which users have rights - right down to table level.

no.thats access that does that.
what u need is permissions and roles and users. sql is a service. not a flat file like MS access
check microsoft.com for ur specific answers.
read up sql server books online.
trouble is: u wud get info on sql 2005, not 7
