Even if it's not extremely clear, everybody (including me) would give you a biased opinion. So, I'll recommend a website which shows EXACTLY what each party believes, on each issue.
Democrats
http://ontheissues.org/Dem_Platform_2004.htm
Republicans
http://ontheissues.org/2004_GOP_Platform.htm
These are the official platforms, or published definitive views, of both the Democrat & Republican parties. You can't get much more accurate than from the parties themselves.

RE:
what is the difference between a democrat and a republican?
I know it's a stupid question, but i just never really learned about politics. I know they are two different parties, but i don't know what exactly they represent. If anybody can tell me what the major difference is without a biased opinion? thanx

democrats are known for "tax and spend" raise taxes and spend that money.
Republicans cut taxes, give rebates and still spend like drunken sailors.
the difference is that with democrats there will be less pay in your paycheck while with republicans there will be more in your check but not in your children's paychecks or your grandchildren's too.
PS. you cannot help but have bias infiltrate a political question but this is a historical view. For years we were slowly paying off the debt of WWII then Ronald Reagan, George Bush the older and sonny boy wiped out those gains and set us even deeper in the hole.

A Democrat is a person striving to make it in life, with Government help. They will repay the Government by paying taxes. A Republican is someone who made it, and now wants to deprive anyone else from making it by cutting out those same funds that got them there.
A young man was hitch-hiking, a lady picked him up in her fancy cadillac, and he was amazed by the car. Everything in it was first class, top of the line. She said, "there's nothing too good for us Republicans". Going down the road, the A/C kicked on, ruffling her dress, and the young man started laughing. She asked what he was laughing about, and he replied, "I've only been a Republican for 10 minutes, and I already want to screw somebody"..

Republicans are the mouth-piece of the religious right and big business. Their goal is to make a law so that they can steal, steal, and say its ok because there is now a law that says its ok.
Democrats are for government.
There's a fine line between "bias" and "fact".
