i agree with the question asker, i also think hes a zero. i mean come on! he stays with 2 women (calypso and circe), lies to his men, and thinks highly of himself too much! what kind of a hero cheats on his wife and stays with 2 other women for a long time with the 20 years hes gone, and why does he have to lie to his men and be disloyal, and he worries about his self-image, i mean, he makes himself look good all the time. *something goes wrong* Odysseus: "oops, that was all zeus' fault"

Epic hero. But Rama, Sundiata, and Gilgamesh are zeros for sure

Well...he kicked **** in the Trojan War. Then his invention (the Trojan Horse) won it for the Achaeans (Greeks). Then he had 10 years' worth of adventures (full of monsters, gods, bad guys, trips to the underworld, sorceresses & storms) trying to sail back to Ithaca. And at the end - after fighting a horde of suitors - he gets the girl (well, his foxy wife) Penelope! I'd say that's pretty heroic!

"Epics" are thoughts of heroes, Odysseus is a hero, for that reason, he's epicly heroic. the only difficulty that makes him a hero is the trial/consequence sequence- he beats the "undesirable guy" each and every time.

That his name is still known and his story still debated places him in the realm of epic and he did beat the bad guys and win the lady, so hero.
