gold fish and bettas. just let everyone watch finding nemo and you won't need fish or games. you could play pin the fin on nemo or something like that -- your fish idea might anger parents -- parents don't always like surprises -- even if they are small like goldfish.
heres a page of nemo party ideas from moms with nothing else to do but make this stuff up -

Fish are liveing creatures NOT Decorations. Imagine liveing for a few years inside a porta potty. Thats about what your expecting the fish to do. Keeping them in a bowl is extreamly cruel and the fish will die a slow painful death. Just because beta fish are "cheap" does not make them any less of a liveing thing, and yes they do require at least 2.5 gallons of water with a filter and a heater. Also if properly taken care of they can live upwards of 5 years.
At adult size goldfish will need more like 10 gallons each and still require a filter, heater and air pump.
By useing fish as party decorations you will only be teaching your nephew that its ok to abuse animals. Is that the message you want to give him?
Buy nemo pictures, posters toys whatever but leave the live fish out of it. Don't make any more fish die because of That irresponsible movie.

Fish are not "centerpieces", they are living creatures which require knowledgeable care and a loving home.
Would you use kittens in little cages as centerpieces?
YEESH!
Why do people view fish as something to be used and thrown away?
PLEASE, do yourself, your guests, THE CHILDREN (who will be learning from the example you set) and the animal kingdom at large a favor, and find some REAL decorations for your party.
I am sorry if I come across strongly, but I see SO MANY people treating living creatures like this because "they are just fish".
It sickens me.
Be kind. Treat them like animals that deserve some respect as living creatures, not like decorations.
Unless you are planning to be the owner of all these fish (because you can't count on being able to give any, much less all, of them away), please consider something else for your "centerpieces".

And what are you going to do with the fish that are left over? What if the parent's won't let their kid take it home? Only fish that can survive in a "bowl" type environment is a betta, but it's cruel for them to be in anything under 2 gallons IMO. Why don't you try a fake plastic fish in a bowl instead?

DO NOT put a goldfish in a bowl. They are dirty, so the water needs to be constantly changed or it will die of ammonia poisoning. Also, they will quickly outgrow their bowl and die of lack of oxygen. A beta is your best bet, they don't need water changes that often (once a week is probably good) and the stay fairly small. They can also breathe from the surface, so you don't need an air pump. They like still water, so no filter necessary either. Mine's in one of those portable 1 gallon containers (the kind you put little pts in for traveling, etc...has a green lid with vents and the container is clear plastic) along with an apple (mystery) snail and a cople ghost shrimp ,and they're doing great. Surprisingly, he's left the shrimp alone, but he flares at the snail whenever he comes across it. His beauty come out when he does that. Be sure to keep him along, he will fight with other males and will nip at anything with a fancy tail or fancy fins (he even nipped at my female guppies, not very fancy, so he got moved to his own "apartment";)) Make sure you keep a lid or some sort of cover on the bowl, they have a tendency to jump out.

Dear little friend, u should avoid keeping fish in small bowls as they suffer. However if u must, then keep siamese fighting fish, as they breathe dirrect from atmosphere and can survive in smaller quarters, and ofcource they are beautiful

The best fish for you is a betta fish We have had one for almost a year he lives in a bowl and needs no pumps or equiptment just some pretty marbles and a couple of plants. The problem with bettas is they have to live by themselves. They get cranky if they have to share. They only cost about five dollars and this one lives in a very large brandy snifter. They can live in any pretty bowl or vase.

beta fish are really hearty, they'll survive in a cup...as for good games I'm not really sure. When I was little I liked anything to do with arts and crafts. Hope this helps!
Woah, I don't appreciate the thumbs down(s)....
I assume the fish won't be kept in the small bowls permanently?
just as party favors? They make great pets for small children...
