you are only a child for 12 years
a teenager for only 8 years
a young adult for only 12 years
middle age for 10 years
and then you can be considered an oldie goldie

except for a few exceptions to really get 'somewhere' in life you have to study till your late twenties before you get anyway

on the other hand once you hit the age where ppl call you "grandpa" ( 50 ), you still might have 30 years to go before you quit this earth...

is it unfairly short and yet long ? =x

because when you focus on the good things that happened, it seems like life is short, but when you focus on the bad things that happened, life seems so long. and when you are old and in alot of pain and suffering life will seem very long but when you are with your friends and having fun time seems to fly by.

so go out there and have a short life.

You know, I've passed all those categories, and I've begun to think that the passage of time, is somehow an illusion of a kind. That is, I am still the same person I was as a child, so that no time at all has passed in that regard. And all the things that have "happened" really seem to be not so important as the person who is "watching" them, and thinking sometimes he is participating, but more affected than affecting them. What has happened and what WILL happen, are like the water that goes down the river. The river is always changing. And yet (who can guess what Im going to say next?) it's always the same river, looks exactly the same also.

because when we think back to how many years have passed all the "special" memories come up. You never can remember the details even though its still there in your mind. When we think about the situations we are in now, we think of mostly stuff that drag us down, or cheer us up, making the 'future' seemingly pass by slow. Then yet, when we get to a stage where people call you elderly and people start treating you different, you start to wonder, how much longer will i live, so many years have passed and yet, what have i been doing up until now? and we start regreting. You can never change or erase the pass, but the future is always in front of you. LIfe is considered short so dont let your doubts hit you.
Or when you're young you go, there's still i long time till i get old, who cares.
Life is all about repetition of giving up, like air seeping out of a ballon, everytime you give up dreams and hopes it'll slowly start to deflate, by the time we realize that, it's usually quite late. When we run into mistakes we dont know what to do, and that is waisting our time, even though there are farewells there are also encounters, time is still moving, an con't be stopped, dont stumble on it, but instead face forward and walk. Life is short but the memories that you have will last a life time, its up to you to make it mostly sweet memories, as less bitter memories as possible or make an antidiotic to the bitterness. Memories are what will last forever, even after you're death, you will still be remembered.
I think im going off topic and im kind of messing up myself. haha

Life is short when I'm with my beloved & long when I'm not. Time flies when you're having fun & drags when you aren't.

It is relative! Time seems to go more quickly the older you get because each year is a smaller portion of your life. Life always seems shorter when you look back than when you look ahead. If you're waiting for something, it seems to take forever to come but once it's passed, it seems to have snuck up on you so quickly.

Excellent concept!

Here are the well written yet brief quips from those that have a good inclination:

“If you are ever in doubt as to whether to kiss a pretty girl, always give her the benefit of the doubt”

“When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, it seems like two minutes. When you sit on a hot stove for two minutes, it seems like two hours that's relativity.”

“Life is short and we never have enough time for gladdening the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Oh, be swift to love! Make haste to be kind.”

“Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience treacherous, judgment difficult”

“Life is a short affair; we should try to make it smooth, and free from strife”

“Because life is short, it's wise to make it broad”

“Who wants to live to be a hundred? What's the point of it? A short life and a merry one is far better than a long life sustained by fear, caution and perpetual medical surveillance”

“Life is short, but its ills make it seem long”

“The life so short, the crafts so long to learn”

“Dreams are, by definition, cursed with short life spans”

“Short as life is, we make it still shorter by the careless waste of time”

“Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really.”

“You have only a short period of time in your life to make your mark, and I'm there now.” ~G.C.

“Life is short, and it is here to be lived.”

“Life is short, and it is up to you to make it sweet.”

“For some life lasts a short while, but the memories it holds last forever.”

---I didn't search for "long life" quotes.. doubt there would be any compared to these...
Thanks for the question! My take is that life is short, in a long, round-about kind of way...

Good and clever question!
I think we pass teh days by living in each moment and also, we saw the whole of our life with looking in it above, these two -some-opposite positions make us feel it is short and long altogether.

Best wishes

You shouldn't worry about that...just live everyday as if it were your last....life moves pretty fast, if you don't take time to look around, you might just miss it. ^_^
