It would be the beginning of the end of MLS. Remember what ended the old NASL? 2 things. Over expansion and teams overpaying for old over-the-hill players to compete with the NY Cosmos and Pele. Now the MLS has adopted what they are calling the Beckham rule saying that a club can use its own money to sign big name foreign players. This will force teams with not much money to sign big name players and will bring about the end of pro soccer again and for what I fear will be the last time.

I cant seriously believe that David Beckham would be so desperate to play soccer to come to the MLS.... the MLS is like the NFL Europe is to American Football... He'd be better off playing for a second string EPL team then the MLS

Yay for xenophobia. Bearing in mind I don't know MLS all that well, I think it'd just raise the profile of football/soccer in the U.S. a bit. Beckham himself won't do much 'cause he's well past it.

He'll get bored playing with players well below the level he's used to and he'll retire pretty quickly.
