as long as they have the parents approval, is legal to get married.
is not stupid or dumb, i bet the parents feel more at ease that their daughter is married (even at such young age), instead of running around and having sex with several different men.
plus girls are more (at 16yrs of age) mature mentally than men.
if i were you i would wish your friend the best of luck - better him than you...

According to the laws of the state you are in. In Virginia and Kentucky it is legal. You wondering why they want to get married is good. The think they know it all and they haven't even begun to experience life. I ran away at fourteen had a friend's alcoholic mother sign as my mother and married. By the time I was nineteen I was getting a divorce and had a two year old son. Tell them to look before they leap. I thought I was in love so did he. Turns out we were in love with the idea of being in love. He was older also.

I don't get it either! I was married at 17, and ended up wasting 21 years of my life.
As for legal problems, it depends on the state. In most states the parents have to sign papers giving the miner child (yes, I said child!) permission to marry.

1) If they have had sex, he get be jailed for having sex with a minor. He'll have to register as a sex offender.
2) If she has her mother's approval, they are as good as married.
It's sad, really. Why a 21-year old would want to take the childhood of a 16-year old is beyond my comprehension. Keep your receipt for their wedding gift--that marriage isn't going to last.

The laws vary by state. In some states (eg Indiana) a 16 year old needs permission from the court.
You can check the laws for each state here:

No legal problems but most marriages entered into at a young age do not last. Everyone thinks that thiers will be different. Most are wrong.

it depends on what state you live in.....in some states, it would be illegal for a 21yr old to have sex with a 16 yr old and the guy might be arrested when they go to get the marriage license. In some states, it is not illegal because it is not illegal for a 16 yr old to have sex with a 21. For example, florida.
Just check the laws for your state.

I'm pretty sure that with parental consent, she can be married to your friend while she's 16. I'd remind them that this is a huge step for people so young though.

as long as her mother signs for her then everything should be fine. I got married at 17 my husband was 20 at the time. As long as her mother has custody of her anyways.
