Ethically, it is bad to eat turtle meat. The turtles that make the tastiest soup are now endangered species. I was recently in Panama, and even though eco-tourism is a big deal there and people go to see the turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, some unscrupulous people still sell turtle soup there and make dishes with the turtle eggs. It's sad when the traditional way of life clashes with modern sensibilities. On the one hand you want to save these elegant creatures, and at the same time you're sitting there with a big spoon. Oh, the humanity.
