the name is obviously just a name. why do they call it a super bowl. that's rhetorical, I know why. Its all just a marketing ploy to make it sound better than it really is, not to diminish baseball. I personally like the wolrd cup better just because it is every four years and the world truly is represented. Especially France's team, I think they had more players from Africa than the African teams had.

There is also an argument that baseball is represented by players from around the world and we are most definitely the best league in the world.

I am a huge sports fan and love both, but the question is a bit assinine. sorry.

So tired of this question. Boiled down to its essence, we got the name first. Deal with it. The St. Louis Cardinals are the World Series champions.

But just to show that baseball is way more international than you think, the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992 and 1993.
Players in the big leagues come from Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea. I probably have forgotten some. Japan won the world baseball classic, Cuba came in second. It is a more international game than you think. And the average baseball game has more tension and excitement than most soccer games.

It is called the World Series because it was first sponsored by a newspaper called the New York World. That is where the name is derived from.

Actually the world is eligible. It takes a lot to put together a pro baseball team that can win. How many Americans do you know that would want to play America's past time for a Japanese or Chinese team.
