Maybe men really want a 1950's type of wife, but they won't admit it out loud. I am just trying to understand more clearly what a man really wants in a wife.

Depends on a guy. I think both wife and husband should have a career of some kind, not flipping burgers, but a career bringing in decent money. After a child is born there is enough money not to struggle and wife stops working until the baby is several years old and a baby-sitter is hired.

My husband wouldn't have it any other way. I worked out of the home for six months this past year, the first time I worked since I got pregnant with our son, he's almost four. Neither one of us could stand it. We ate more junk food or convenience cooking, which I've never even bought a jar of spaghetti sauce before, I've always made it homemade. I made very good money, for us it just wasn't worth it. We worked opposite shifts as I wouldn't leave my son with a care provider (he agreed of course or we would never have gotten married). We never saw one another and after three years of mommy at home, began to see negative changes in our son. Just not worth it to us. And I wouldn't call it a 1950's mentality. Every single friend I have is like minded. Stays home with her children to care for them, their husband and home, Sure we all do little things to try to help out, sell things on eBay or whatever. Just not out of the home. I love being home!

If I were married, and had enough money, my wife could do what she wanted to do. Work, not work, have a nanny. It seems like in order to get ahead these days it takes both people earning an income. In the 1950s one job would support a family.

yep, a lot of men do. and honestly parts of that kind of woman really DO appeal to me. not because i'm lazy or want someone to be my maid. but that nurturing, domesticated kind of women is very attractive, especially to men, like me, who someday wants a family.

just like a man that works hard and takes care of his own is appealing to a woman. not that women cant take care of themselves or just want someone to pay for everything.

but i would in noway want a woman that can only do those things. it is more important for me to have a woman that is smart and aggressive and etc. (the things i like apart from mothering and cleaning)

but no matter what man it is he wants a wife that is supportive of him, honest with him, loyal to him, respects him, loves him. the very same things women want. so as long as you got those things, i'm sure the man wont have many complaints.
