I think he's a mirage. As soon as you hit him one good time he is done.

He has great mechanics; there is no doubt about that. However, he is very prone to poor decisions under pressure, and has a tendency to force passes. He is a young quarterback and has plenty of time to "grow" into the role.
He is quite injury-prone and relatively immobile compared to the other QBs of his generation, which does not bode well for him in the long run. He is the type of quarterback that will never take over a game, but will be effective with a solid offensive line, a consistent running attack, and intermediate/long receiving options, all of which he has in Chicago.
To answer your question, he is a bit of both. A mirage in the sense that he's only as good as the team around him, and he simply would not be able to succeed on a team with limited resources, such as Vince Young is trying to do with the Titans. But he is also the real deal in terms of mechanics - he has raw skills that many other QBs simply do not have.

Rex has the flair to be an rather good quarterback yet there are some positives and negatives going into this season: on the plus area, he needless to say can throw a great deep ball whilst given adequate time, secure practices in the pocket. additionally, he learns from his errors by way of fact the interest progresses yet often this expertise would not carry over to the subsequent interest and he genuinely began from scratch various cases and repeated an identical errors (overthrowing, throwing to protecting gamers without a receiver in sight and jerky strikes in the pocket). however the terrific stress I remember from final season grew to become into in the process the Bears first interest against Minnesota (whilst they have been the two 2-0) whilst he led the bears to a prevailing stress overdue in the interest. in accordance with this and his 2 playoff victories I say he has a respectable shot at progression. the main significant detrimental for me, as nicely-being so inconsistent, grew to become into various comments he made final season approximately no longer analyzing tape and in maximum cases, a lazy suggestions-set whilst it is composed of stepping up his interest. no longer all QBs are like Peyton and learn tape all day yet whilst i grew to become into Rex final 12 months, thats what i could have been doing. This 'i'm no longer in a hurry to benefit' suggestions-set might fee him as he could think of he has the equipment and would not could refine them (which he needless to say does.)

He is crap. He has been since his college days. He has always put the ball up for grabs under pressure. You can't say a QB is "the real deal" if they can't play under pressure, turnovers lose football games, period. If the Bears get knocked out early in the playoffs (which I think they will), it will be because Grossman is a liability.

rex grossman is the real deal, as long as he's not under pressure. when miami and arizona pressured him, he made bad desicions and turned the ball over, but if the bears continue to protect him like they have for the most part, he'll be the real deal.

He's a mirage. He can't play against a real defense. I am sick of hearing how great he played on Sunday night against the Giants. It's easy to look good when you are playing a team without six injured defensive starters, including two of the top pass rushers in the game in Strahan and Umenyora, and he had all night to throw the ball. It will be interesting to see how he does in the playoffs against good teams and defenses.

He is a white Michael Vick except he doesn't have any mobility, so in laymans terms you can't always count on him, but when he has a good game, it is REALLY good. The good thing is, is that his defense is raw, so the offense will have plenty of opportunities to score, which is what he needs.
