a lot of people take philosophy in school for preparation for law school. other than that, it does help you become the smartest person you know or the craziest if you treat it like a religion and not process.
there is also philosophy that is applied as in politics and ethics. in politics, there is a rule that many politicians live by called the greatest good for the greatest number. this same rule comes out of ethics. companies use ethics derived from philsophers to use as standards of conduct.
