If you are really his friend you can mention that you are open minded enough to not care if someone is gay or straight without putting your friend on the spot by asking him if he is gay. If he is in fact gay (and you don't know if he is or isn't) he will tell you when he is comfortable enough to tell you. Just let him know that he can tell you anything and you will stay friends with him because of the person he is, not because of who he likes.

Look at the way he walks. There are a lot of stances that can determine if he's gay or not. If he acts ot talks funny, he could be gay.

it should not matter if he is your friend. if he or she is they will talk to you about it in due time. my friend wally told me like four years after the fact we had been friends but i knew he was from day one. just remember this a friend is a friend untilt he end no matter what the other person likes or dislikes.

If he is a true friend that it shouldn't matter!
However if you must know - then ask!

Kiss him on the lips!
If he closes his eyes, "He's gay"
If he closes yours, "He's not"!
