Why are people ignorant enough to believe that Lainto/Hispanic is a race?

First of all, the Latin language originated in Italy. So the Spaniards are not even "Latino" to begin with. Latin is a dead language, not a race. And Hispanic means that you are from a country in the Americas that speaks SPANISH. It is NOT a race, ANYONE can be Hispanic. There are Asian Hispanics, Black Hispanics, it is just ignorant to believe that it is actually a RACE. Why are people so uneducated? That is like me saying that my race is French. See how stupid that sounds? French is either a language or a nationality. NOT a race.

It is also a fact that is misconception was formed because of the US American government trying to label people.

Also remember that a race is a group of people with similar features. A "hispanic" can either look white, or black. There is no specific look. Why? Because it is not a race.

To answer your question, scientists have said that there are only THREE races in the world. And those are Caucasoid, Mongoloid, and *******. Mongoliod includes people of north and east Asia, Malaysians, and American Indians. Caucasoid includes humans primarily from Europe, the Middle East (Western Asia), North Africa, as well as parts of the Indian subcontinent and Central Asia. & ******* describes the racial classification of humans from Sub-Saharan Africa and Nilotic peoples of East Africa and was one of a varying number of races defined by various racial theories.

I get the same argument about being arabic... Arab is not a race either.. its defined as a group of peoples whose primary language is arabic.. If you go to SaudiArabia where I live.. there are black, white, brown, oriental and all sorts inbetween that are all arabic... We have many pure Saudi's that are blonde haired, blue eyed, white skinned that are 100's of generations living in SaudiArabia... They are just as much arabic as the next black skinned, kinky haired, brown eyed dude.. As well as the most common brown skinned, (typical hollywood) arab...

Well, every...I don't know what to call them now...person who speaks spanish? Every person who speaks spanish that I know refers to themselves as hispanic or latino. My boyfriend is a person who speaks spanish and is from Guatemala and he refers to himself as hispanic. So if my boyfriend is not hispanic then what is he? Cause both of us would love to know.

Okay...Caucasoid, Mongoloid, *******? Is it any wonder people would rather be called Hispanic, black or African-American, Asian, White, Armenian WHATEVER! It shouldn't be such a huge deal, I don't hear any complaints from my hispanic friends about being called hispanic and I sure as hell would rather be called White than Caucasoid...To each their own I guess but when you are filling out a form where you need to choose your nationality or race I don't see Caucasoid or Mongoloid or ******* as options so instead of stressing over it, just chill.

Kind of agree except we all know the term is used to describe those people who survived being conqueured by speakers of the latin based spanish language and that they themselves use this term.

TO my understanding most of them are of mixed race, sometimes tho its gets kind of uniform in some areas;

In actual fact latino then refers to many "races"

Race is actually a kind of nebulous term too, especially if you follow evolution.

I agree with you. I don't get the whole African American thing either. I mean if you are born in America you are American. I can understand being African American if you were born in Africa.
I think its a whole identity crisis thing. Most people who want to be referred to as African American have never even been to Africa.

i dont know, i know a lot of spanish people is that the appropriate word? anyways i live in south florida and know a lot of spanish people from people from puerto rico to argentina and they refer to themselves as Latinooo and Latinaaas and stuff so i just assumed that they were latin or hispanic because they refer to themselves as that but now i know thats not the case.
