you know what, i could care less about fashion. its all about function, and not all of us have the budget to head out and buy new Versace everytime we need clothes, so thats what goodwill is there for. i'm not above wearing something that someone else wore before me, and if need be i'll wash it.

dont get me wrong, i buy new clothes, but i'm budget conscious, and playing in a rock band, sometimes we go for a "vinatge" look (which i dig more than current trends anyhow. second hand stores are great for that. i dont NEED to buy there, but if i can choose between giving my dollars to someone who needs it, or some rich guy who's just getting richer, and i can save money in the meantime..... no contest there.

it might be hard for you to understand depending on where you're from, or what you've been exposed to in your life, but there are ppl everywhere (your town included) that NEED places like that. we should thank our lucky stars that most of us live to a standard that is way above the global average.

Well, if you don't like second hand clothing, Goodwill isn't the place for you.

I personally love Goodwill because I find tons of designer stuff people donate for super cheap prices!

I bought a pair of True Religion Joey jeans there last month for 6.99!!!!!! I've also bought a Coach handbag at a thrift store for $30!

I of course wash everything after I buy it, but the items I buy are in really good shape for super cheap prices! I love thrift stores!

Omg they wash it all at our good will. In fact most of the ppl that donate it wash it before they bring it up there and then they wash it again. All our goodwill goes to a store and people go and buy it for really cheap (its like a huge garage sale) and the money goes to benefit less fortunate people. It may sound gross to people who are stuck up and rich snobs..but unfortunately mommy and daddy doesnt give soem of us all the **** we want so we sometimes have no other choice...besides i have found all kinds of good clothes like abercrombie and gap there for like $1.

I don't know what second hand store you're shopping at. Most of them are clean. Some are a bit more choosy than others about the clothes they take in. Not only the "less fortunate" shop there. It's a fun way to find vintage items and try out different styles without spending a lot of money.

It is gross that most of the clothes you buy at second hand stores are not washed. But there isn't much that low income families can do. As long as it's washed when they bring it home, I see no problem.
Try not to let these people know how gross you think it is, it takes alot of courage (and lowers pride) to have to shop in those stores.

I agree but if you really think about how many people try on your jeans that you buy say from the Gap or wherever that thought could really gross you out too. When I buy any clothing from anywhere I make sure I wash it promptly.

OMG, have you heard of a washing machine? By no means do I NEED Goodwill and thrift stores but I love shopping at them. You can tell if clothes were taken care of or not....

They may not wash their items but if I bought something from the Goodwill I would still go home and wash it regardless.

If they are a non profit organization then you cant really blame them,it costs a lot to wash a ton of clothes everyday,i guess they could refuse to take in clothes that are in too bad condition/dirty,but whats so bad with washin em yourself :p

I think I'm the only person who agrees with you. That doesn't mean that I'm cold hearted and am not sympathetic to those who need to shop there because of whatever circumstances in their lives they have. I just don't think it's a clean place, it's my opinion in which I'm entitled to. I personally, just do not feel comfortable in second-hand clothing stores.
