MAXIMUM PLAYER SALARY

Is there a maximum an individual player may earn?

Yes. No player may be eligible to contract for or receive in excess of 20% of the Club's upper limit in total annual compensation (NHL salary plus signing, roster, reporting and all performance bonuses). In 2005-06, no player will be permitted to contract for total compensation in excess of $7.8 million in any year of his contract.

Jagr because he was overpayed prior to the Salary Cap. So since the salaries were only cut what 20% or whatever the concession was he is still going to get a large amount. I think you can blame the Capitals owner for that one. I think when the Penguins traded him to the Capitals they were the ones that redid the contract to pay him so much. The Rangers just ended up absorbing the contract costs. Either that or the Rangers were behind it, I just know it wasn't the Penguins.
