I work in a branch of a chain restaurant company that may be shutting soon down due to several reasons. The reasons are irrelevant but, I do know that with the exception of management the rest of us will get the axe. Now, does anyone know if it's standard for companies to give severance packages? And if so, for how much?

no im sorry to say, unless your restaurant has a union that you belong to. i also work at a restaurant chain that may be closing and i will get a small one time pension from the union (under 1,000) if they do close or i leave. if you do lose your job, if you can, call your local restaurant union to see which restaurants in your area are union and apply there. its worth it. good luck to you

The management gets a severance package. I guess that proves it is better to be at the top of the food chain than at the bottom. (Sorry... could not resist) If you are a full time employee, you could get two weeks as a severance package and eligible for unemployment. Your personnel director/HR manager should know about the two weeks severance. You need to check with the unemployment office in your area for eligibility for unemployment.

Nope, you're lucky you got advance notice. So amny businesses lately have been just shutting down without any warning to employees or customers.

Good luck!

I seriously doubt it. Food chain workers are treated like napkins and thrown away.

No. Well, almost always no. Your manager may have a kind streak, but most have no interest in giving you unearned money.
