One is certainly the introduction of European diseases, like smallpox, which killed off around 80 percent of the native population of the Americas between 1500 and 1800.
Today: lots fewer Indians around, and those that are tended to be worse off than most Americans

Another is trade, the extraction of vast amounts of natural resources from the Americas to Europe: mining (gold and silver), slaves from the carribean, lumber, furs. The Europeans took everything that wasn't nailed down, with little regard for the people (or animals) affected by the pillage.
Today: lot fewer trees, animals, etc, around today
Also created a "take everything" ethos that lasted until around the 1960s

Language- a positive as English became our language and like it or not, English is the predominant language in the world. Food and agricultural and livestock practices - European farming methods and livestock production (particularly horses and cattle) flourished in the new colonies. Lots of land and lots of favorable weather. Law - with the Magna Carta, laws were put into place giving rights and protections. Of course this came from England but it was a great influence upon the drafters of the Constitution of the United States, arguably the greatest document of government ever written.
