I go there all the time and am addicted!! Yes it is worth it and I have met some great MUA ladies there. It is basically a place for beauty junkies and I have swapped about 15 times so far! (for MAC eyeshadows, new Lipglasses, clothes, etc.!) I asked this same question when I was new to makeupalley.com and received a lovely answer from lacylynn420:

"i use makeup alley religiosly. Dont listen to what other people say about swapping makeup. Thats silly.
I have only had one bad experience on makeupalley. I sent out my end and the girl didnt send hers. But other than that, people are usually dependable.
Make sure you read the description, or ask for a detailed description or picture of the item. This way you can tell if its broken, or heavily used.
Also, look for any negative or neutral feedback left from other users. You might not want to swap with those people either, unless they can explain the negative feedback. Being that you are new to makeupalley, people might ask you to swap first, until you build up tokens. Try and swap with people who have at least 20 tokens, that way you know they are reliable and will send your end after they recieve yours.. There are some people out there who strictly look for new users to rip off becuase they ask you to send first and never send their end. And as for sanitizing, it is your best bet to do that yourself, because you can be thurough and gentle. Lipglasses might be hard to sanitize, becuase its a liquid, but a pressed eyeshadow, wont be harmful because most cultures cant live on something dry. I have never gotten sick, or gotten an eye infection and i have been swapping for years. I have probably swapped a hundred things!
And swapping makeup is VERY understandable. When your paying $15 for and eyeshadow, and you use it one and it looks like crap, at least you can trade it to someone who will use it and you can get something you will use. Its definately different to swap $1 eyeshaodws. Thats probably not smart.
I really hope this helps, and you start to use makeup alley. Its a lot of fun!"

Me: I personally haven't been swaplifted yet, thank God, but you just have to be smart about who has negative tokens, and if you are new and have less tokens than someone else you have to send first. It sucks, but everyone has had to do it! Good luck, and hope to see you there!

i just started swapping on that site, and so far it's great. i get to try alot of cool products for things that i don't want or use anymore. if you're skeptical start out trading with people who have alot of good feedback.

never heard of it but the thought of trading makeup with a stranger that has already been used it pretty gross in my opinion
