I feel troubled lately. I cannot focus in school and I just don't understand what is going on in some of my classes. I don't know if it's my intellgence, my confidence, my laziness, my anger, my thoughts that's getting in the way of my school work. Help!! I think this happens to me right after midterms. My grades are very good by the way. I'm a hard worker. I just lose complete focus and things that bothered me before, irritate me even more. I don't have stress. What's wrong with me? Should I give more detail? I always ask this question. Please try to give me some good anwers. It's like a mental block.

What can I do about this problem?

This semester I don't have that many classes that are difficult. I get too much sleep. Could my answer be that because I have so much spare time, I create problems for myself?

What year are you?

It could be that you have too much time on your hands. One semester I had no job and only a few classes and motivating myself to study was hard. I didn't do very well that semester.

Or, you just might be burned out. You've probably been studying, taking tests, and learning all your life - it gets tiring and you can get tunnel vision.

I had the same thing happen to me sophomore year. That summer a buddy of mine and I drove up to Alaska for 3 months, camping and backpacking. Up there, driving through the Yukon and stuff, the world was so pristine and beautiful I couldn't help wondering why I was so stressed out about school, worring every second I wasn't studying that I SHOULD be studying. And for what - I still had a B average. I'd spent SO many hours in a library cubical, and the world was being beautiful all the while, just as ignorant of me as I was of it.

Can't really explain it in a short paragraph, but it was an epiphany moment. It just cleared my head - when I got back I was totally focused. When I studied I gave it 110%, when I partied I gave that 110%, when I slept I slept like the dead. When I had fun I didn't think about school, and when I was serious nothing could distract me. I wasn't nervous, wasn't anxious, and I got a 3.8 GPA the last 2 years.

Don't know if that helps, but you just might need change for a month or two. Not too long - can't lose the drive.

PS - It's not your intelligence or confidence - you would have known if it was long ago.

You sound just like most of us, hon. After a while, the mind gets tired of doing the same old thing, day in and day out. School can be even worse 'cause you're still young and haven't learned to deal with the tedium that is often life. That's why you get those summer breaks, to let your poor mind unfrazzle. About the best advice I can think of is try to get your mind off school on the weekends. Give the poor thing a rest. Probably sounds dumb to you, but that's what people who are no longer in school have to learn to do. Otherwise, we'd go bonkers.

Even if you think you don't have stress, you probably do. I never think I'm stressed until things like that start happening to me. I find that I start burning out at this time of the term. It's totally normal. Ask your friends...many of them probably feel the same way. Try taking an entire day on the weekend for yourself. Don't go out and party or anything. Stay in, rent a movie, get lots of sleep. You'll probably notice a difference.

Good luck!

You say it's like a mental block - sounds like an attention defecit (ADD). ADD is also sometimes associated with hyperactivity which it sounds like you don't have or depression which you may if you are irritable and just don't feel like doing things you used to enjoy. Do you have any trouble with weight (heavy or light)? If so, have your thyroid checked out. You could just be bored too. Do you like your ciriculum? If not, consider trying something else.

Stress can do some strange, even "Hidden" things to us & our minds. While you say your not stressed, you could in fact be & apparently dont even realize it?

You could also be A.D.H.D.? EVERYONE has A.D.H.D., just that it dont show up in MANY people.

It could also maybe be that....since it happens AFTER your "MidTerms"...you could be "Nervous" about, like...how you did?

Please click on the below link & type in things such as....A.D.H.D., Stress, Anxiety, Etc.
Poke around in there......it is a VERY HELPFUL site! :)

GOOD LUCK!
(Sorrie to rush thru this 1. I must take my baby man 2 school) ;)

It sounds like you are really honest with yourself..Probably almost too hard on yourself... I have found you can not control anything in this world...The only thing you can control is the way you respond to things....Continue to work hard...Keep your head up and GO Forward.....

It could be a letdown that affects you after you have worked very hard to achieve your goals. It could also be depression.
