In the Simpsons television show, the entire town moved "5 miles up the road". Why?

Homer messed up as usual

Cuz of Homer. He was in charge of the sanitation department and he wasted a lot of money. So he made money by allowing other towns to dispose their waste here. The garbage got too much and finally, everyone had to leave town.

Because there was too much garbage there, I think it was because homer was the head garbage guy and screwed things up. They put it in an old mine where it exploded the town, so they moved.
Later in the episode Homer jumps from his moving house over to Moes.

When Homer was elected waste commissioner, he blew the years budget in a single month. He had to let other cities dump their toxic waste in springfield to pay for everything. It caused such a mess, it was easier to movet he town.

I think it was because the garbage men went on strike or something and the town became a huge garbage dump.
