whats the difference between TFT and HD Ready?

sorry i'm quite a dumbass.. but i'm looking to buy a pc monitor with good picture, however pc monitors don't seem to come hd ready. and sadly i don't know what TFT is.. checked wikipedia but i still don't have a scoob... can somebody recommend?

Hi TFT is a technology and HD is a standard. The technology is complex but boils down to twisted fields in the transistor that makes up a pixel. HD specifies how MANY pixels. (1080i or p, etc.) Your PC will be good to go with a (select resolution here) number of pixels.
