Do you think it mainly demonstrates that the student has no idea what he or she wants to do with his/her life? --That they're just confused and couldn't settle for one major?

I consider Liberal Arts to be a good, well rounded education. If you have the luxury of not having to get out and earn immediately it is a good way to go. That is my opinion.

'Liberal studies' is a general education major, which means it's not a major at all - you just take random classes. That makes it the easiest major out there, and the least useful - because anyone who picked a major will have learned more than you about at least one thing. If you want to be a teacher, major in education. That's also easy.
