does anybody else have a problem with not getting a good nights sleep...but you don't want to take sleep aids??? I go through these "spells"...I will be able to sleep really good for about a week and then I will go for about 2-3 weeks where I get really lousy sleep and I actually start getting sick b/c of it. My body is just so tired most of the time that I'm too exhausted to be able to sleep good. Does anybody have any suggestions? My iron has always been a little low from time to time, but I take daily vitamins to help with that...any ideas???

I can generally fall to sleep rather quickly...but I tend to wake up in the middle of the night and start tossing and turning and then I can't go back to sleep or if I do manage to go back to sleep, I wake up about once or twice every hour...

Here's what works for me when I wake up in the middle of the night:
I try to find a comfortable position. I grab a pillow and snuggle up against it. For some unknown reason pressure on my stomach and lungs relaxes me (not so pressure that I can't breath)
I let my mind wander. It is going to flip on and start talking so I let it. I try to guide it towards thinking about sleep.
Make sure the room is a comfortable temperature. For me I like the room cold and to be under three blankets. You may like it warm with only sheet. If you are sweating or shivering you are not comfortable.
Talk to yourself. I guess if there is someone else near by that could be a problem but if you are alone go for it. Talk about anything and everything.
Make the room either completely silent or have just enough noise. I need noise to sleep. Some people need complete silence; decide which one works for you and make sure it is there.
Stop worrying. It is the middle off the night so whatever it is can't be fixed at that hour. Life goes on. Get some sleep.
Get one of those warming things that you put in the microwave. Putting one of those (when it is hot) across a tense area of your body may work wonders.
Put pillows under your legs to straighten out your back. It feels good after a long day. and is a new position and those help you sleep better.
I have found it easier to fall asleep when I am not fighting being awake. Just relax and lay there and rest if you can't sleep. Good Luck!

If sleeping aids where not that good, you could not see so many advertising on TV. Sleep comes anytime the trouble is you can be driving and others may pay for your troubled insomnia there is a study going on right now maybe you qualify. Insomnia is as long as the world have people. I spend six months no sleep at night and don't eat on day time. It was easy I sleep at daytime and eat at night time.

might be a good idea to check in with your doctor and have a good blood test done to check if you're missing any suplemantal things in yor body. Other than that start getting ready for be derlier , Turn off the pc , take a relaxing bath and a cup of hot green tea. This will relax you and get you sleepy

I try reading also, but only because I'm a bookworm. Anyway if it's a really good book I'll get interested and before I know it, I'm sleeping like a baby. My roomate thinks I'm a freak for reading books in the middle of the night, but it works.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Well before you go down the sleeping pill road, try Valerian. It's in any health food section even at Walmart and it really does relax you but it smells like dirty feet.
