You can use the doasage for a 1 year old. It's not really a dosage, more of a recomendation. you can give too much, but it would take an awful lot. A good rule of thumb is to alternate baby bottles of Pedialyte and water. Pedialyte contains sugars and electrolytes along with water to help prevent dehydration when a child is vomiting or has diahrea. Strictly giving a lot of Pedialyte could upset the body's electrolyte balance, which could lead to irregular heartbeats and other odd problems. However, as I said, your child would almost have to drink a gallon before the effects would take place. Alternating with water negates this possibility.

RE:
Dosage of Pedialyte?
My 4 month old son has been sick and the doctor told us to give him some pedialyte because hes not eating correctly and she doesn't want him to get deydrated. But she forgot to give us the dosage for a 4 month old the bottle only has the dosage for a 1+ year old. How much do we give him?

That is a RECOMMENDED intake used for a baby that is drinking only that the entire day. The best thing to do is try and keep your baby hydrated, offer him pedialyte as often as he will take it. How much milk does your baby drink on an average day? My daughter was put on pedialyte when she was 8 days old and the nurses told me to offer it to her once an hour. I started out with two ounces since she normally drank a 2 oz bottle but she kept spitting it up so I had to keep lowering the amount offered to her until she didn't spit it up anymore. I'd offer him a bottle the size of his normal feeding and go from there. You really need to contact a doctor first before giving him anything other than breastmilk/formula.

If your baby is vomiting you need to give the pedialyte in small amounts frequently.
Try:
0 min - 1 teaspoon
5 min later - 1 teaspoon
5 min later - 1 teaspoon
5 min later - 2 teaspoons
5 min later - 2 teaspoons
5 min later - 2 teaspoons
5 min later - 3 teaspoons
5 min later - 3 teaspoons ...
If he vomits at any time start from the beginning all over again. If a dehydrated, vomiting baby drinks alot at once, they will vomit. But, the small amounts given frequently get used by his body and it will help prevent or improve dehydration. Pedialyte isn't a medication so, dosage is all relative to what else they may be eating or drinking. Hope your baby is better soon.

when my daughter was 4months old she got a couple high fevers and wouldn't eat lot, and my doctor told me to just give about 3 or 4oz...if he doesn't finish it, thats okay. He will let you know how much he needs. I also heard from my doctor that pedia lite is better than water because it has electo lites in it. But I would take the EMT's advice too. Dont worry too much, like i said just start off with a few oz and he will let you know the rest. good luck
