Do you know women couldn't vote - within your grandmother's lifetime? (probably)

Women were generally not encouraged to work outside the home. Spinsters - women who weren't married by say 25, often became teachers. Or, since they often could not own their own houses, would have to live with whatever family members would put up with them.
