I've heard that there are sources for WW1 and WW2 model airplane kits. I'm looking for ones that provide foreign airplane models as well, specifically those of Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and Japan.

For a real live store go in to your phone book and try to find a hobby store in an old strip mall or in some out of the way location. These are the old mom and pop run stores that usually have an obscure collection of modeles for fairly cheap prices because they bought them off of big chain stores that couldn't sell them. On line there are a couple of my favorites listed below. Great Models Webstore has tons upon tons of models in different scales but not the best pictures or user interface and Tower has great user interface but not as much selection.

The best place to find cheap airplane kits is to look at any submarine model store. Hard to believe, I know!

Most of WWI and WWII airplanes were shot down over water during dogfights, therefore submarines had the best close-up views of these aircraft at the bottom of the sea.

What if there were no dogfights to bring a plane into viewing distance for subs? The subs would surface VERTICALLY, spearing low-flying enemy aircraft and dragging them below, torn to pieces with an alligator-like "death-roll"... or "roll death" as it was also known by those that dyslexia have.

Because of this documented history, every submarine model comes with a airplane model that is missing several pieces to replicate a wounded fighter plane. A squeeze-pack of fake blood is also included to make the scene authentic.

If I had to choose between a model airplane or a model sub, I'd pick the sub every time. Have you ever tried playing with a model AIRPLANE in the bathtub? It's just not right and is historically inaccurate! It sickens me just THINKING about.... Oh God, I think... I'm gonna....puke....

Have fun storming the castle!
:)
