We are new to living in a very remote place and the weather is cold all of the time and going to get worse ,so we stay in alot and sometimes don't go out for days.Is there away to make you survive these log periods of seclusion? Its like being in a weather station in the north pole and trying to cope. Our sleeping habits are taking most of the days but its weird to be awake at night.Anyone have any suggestions as how to make things more normal and easier in stitutation like this?Moving is out of the question .thanks

I also live in a rural area with occasional times due to ice and snow can't get out of my driveway. Keep to a regular schedule of mealtimes and sleeping at night. The sunshine on snow is beautiful. and if the trees are coated in ice they glitter like ice castles in the sunlight. There are many indoor activities besides tv and computer games. Board games or reading a good book by the fireplace. Cooking hearty soups/stews and fresh bread helps to keep the home warm as well as providing a good meal. Take up a hobby or craft that you have always wanted to learn to stimulate your creativity. Even if it is cold, with the proper warm and water proof clothing playing in the snow can be fun for the whole family.

Well I'm not sure where you have moved to, but I live in Massachusetts... it gets pretty damn cold and snowy here. All I have to say is watch out for seasonal depression... I've lived here my whole life and the cold and lack of sunlight really effects me. If you have come from somewhere that is usually warm you might experience it too - but I don't know for sure, I'm not psychologist. Just try and enjoy being inside and doing fun stuff - cook, clean the house, do activities... watch tv and movies. But definitely try to get out once in awhile... yeah it's cold but you can get used to it... and you'll have to if you really don't want to be stuck inside all day. Try and make it a point to at least go outside for a few minutes everyday though. You'll prob just feel better in general.

Scheduling and hobbies may be key. Keep a not-too-strict schedule of things to do including chores and leisure activities. Embrace your situation. Bundle up and take walks and then enjoy the warmth of inside. Decorate the inside to look warm and cheerful.

Create hobbies and create allot of them. Music, books, games, movies, cooking, Internet-related stuff... create a very active internal space that feels welcoming compared to the outside. It worked for me in Wisconsin and it works for me now in the rainy Pacific Northwest!

Get outside and enjoy the snow. It's never too cold, your just under dressed. Do some cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skating. It does wonders for the winter blues.
