Sometimes we can't think selfishlly and of our selves. this is your husbands birthday. when in doubt always put your self in his place if it was your birthday and he was the one complaining he doesn't want to do anything how would that make you feel.
I'm sure he's a good man to you works hard to keep a roof over your head and so your nose is out of joint that one busy night. I too hate to be pushed and shoved and felt like a sardine. but if it made my husband happy that night I'd do it. You will have other nights you can stay in don't miss his birthday just cause its more crowded that night.
And no i hope there will never come a time where you dont' have to do it any more. that would be sad to give up important dates like that.
Try to think of it in your mind as something imp9ortant its part of your husband and he would not want to be forgotten on his special day. Okay you dont' want to go out hate crowds why not have a party at your house invite some of his close friends youknow he enjoys spending time with. Have them have a poker night at your house on his birthday and do all the things he likes for him. Make it special cause it is.
Please don't be selfish here and think of how you dislike it. there are ways of making him happy without you having to face this big crowd . and next year do a cruise on his birthday the year after take a trip someplace .. just keep thinking of things you know now when his birthday is every year and the time it is held on newyears eve. have a cruise it won't be as crowded as in the streets or a small packed bar. least you can roam around .
All the best.
Remember he's your other half. Make sure he's taken care of well

Suggest an intimate, at home birthday/new year's celebration for just the two of you. Do some of the things you would do if you were going out- dress nicely (but more comfortably), cook a nice dinner, use candles everywhere, champaign- whatever comes to mind. It may become your annual thing. It worked for me when I did not want to go out one new year's eve. I was surprised at how quickly he agreed! Best wishes..

You hate going out that night...but what about *him*? Remember, this is *his* birthday, not yours. Do whatever he wants to do. You have the rest of the year to get your way...let him have his this one day.
That said...
If he's a homebody, plan a special and romantic night that celebrates him. Perhaps cook his favorite meal, bake his favorite dessert, rent his favorite movie...things like that. Even create a menu on the computer and treat it like your favorite restaurant...so you can "go out" while staying in! Start out his birthday with some champagne....and finish the day (which would then be New Year's Day) with some champagne.

i love the construct as a lot as Christmas including Christmas Eve, yet any day after that is quite plenty a humid squid as far as i'm anxious. New Years Eve/Day is for adults. Adults are boring alcohol abusers. not interesting. extra like, depressing..

I suggest you buy him a card and maybe a little cake but celebrate his birthday January 31st.
You'll be finished with the holidays and you can really have fun.

most men are cheep, so ask if you can celebrate his b-day on a less expensive night instead. just let him know there will still be fireworks, only they will be just for him.
