Does making notes help memorisation?

Is there any research to show that making notes (for example, from a longer text) can help memorisation? I like to copy the key points from textbooks into a summarised version.
Does it make any difference whether these notes are handwritten or typed?
Please give sources; I am not looking for opinions or personal stories.

There are many ways to memorize things, a major factor is your personal learning style.

lol obviously,
doesn't really need research, if you study/take notes of something you know it better than you did before.
