It depends on whether you want a medium size, fuzzy ball to pet and play hours on end and laugh your butt off while the kitten play goes on, or a small, medium, or large size of the same. Some cats are lap cats , some are not. Cats can take care of themselves a little better than dogs. Dogs lick your face, Cats lick themselves. Cats will come when called by their name. So will dogs. Dogs bark and are good for watching out for robbers, cats just wait until they come in and scratch the crap out of them, unless of course they have food or a toy to chase. What the heck, get both. That 's what I did for 14 years. Just find a good vet beforehand. Good Luck, Anne

cats are better pets by far. For one cats can entertain themselves and dont need to be walked. PLus at the ned of a hard day its so cute to have cat cuddlwe up with you. PLus dogs are more expensive. Dogs need more attention and more space to move aroundin. PLus dogs bark. Yiu can put up with acats meow, which isnt that often but dogs get loud. Dogs can do more damage than a cat can ever do to a house. Cats are just better due to the fact that they are more social than dogs. Not to say dogs arent socail, they are but they are more aggressive and tend to more destructive than a cat. The beauty of a cat is ytou can go away fro a week and theyll be fine. But with a dog you have to find it a home for a week and that can be difficult. Youll either have pay a kennel or find a friend who is willing to look after them. overall the maintenance for cats is less than a dog will ever be. Yeah you have to change a litter box but thats pretty much it.
Both dogs and cats can fleas so either one isnt ammune to that. also cats eat less than dogs. When it comes to vets cats are cheaper. If you are busy like me then you dont have time to walk a dog for about an hour each day and clean up its stool, if you are courtious. To me dogs are a big commitment where cats can be fine on their own. Cats sleep most of the day and if you are having a bad day they are always there by your side/ Cats can sense when you are sad or depressed and tend to stay by your side in those time.

It depends on how much space you have. I prefer dogs because they are more affectionate, playful, and the litter doesn't smell as bad. But they need room to exercise outside. The best pet we had was a Malamute husky, excellent with the children, and stayed at home without being tied up. She lived until she was seventeen. We had a nice black Labrador retriever before that. We have seven acres and lots of room for them to roam. My daughter lived on a small lot in the city. She had a toy poodle. I don't trust Rottweilers, pit bulls, and German Shepherds. They are too unpredictable, and could bite. We had several cats over the years. They all liked to scratch the furniture. They are bad for sleeping where you dont want them, like on the linen shelf. Also they will jump up on the table even if you discipline them for it.

I think you should get a cat because they cant get cancers and stuff as easily as dogs, they are easier to take care of and not as aggressive and needy for attention as dogs are.

In my personal opinion: a dog makes the perfect pet. Mainly because they are easier to train.

I don't like cats because they kill native wildlife. The same could be said of dogs if they become feral but they won't do that if you care for them. Apart from that I feel dogs are more affectionate.

I have both. I have 2 rotts 7yr old male and 6yr old female and a 6mo male kitten. My kitten pretty much takes care of itself. I take my dogs with me everywhere. I think it easier with just a cat/kitten. However I wouldn't trade my puppies for the world.
