what are some of the best colleges (not universities) for study of law in southern california? Or, any other state if they offer live -in - dorms? I am not speaking of those institutions like ITT Tech, I want something that can get me a good chance to transfer into a major university (harvard. pepperdine ....)

The community colleges don't really have good law programs, and I have to warn you that top schools in the nation most of the time don't accept transfer students. For second tier schools like Pepperdine or USC, choose a community college that's closest to the campus of choice. I personally know friends who transferred to the aforementioned schools from Santa Monica College and Pasadena City College.

First, there are no "law colleges" for undergraduate students. The route to a law degree is to first obtain your four year bachelor's degree and then go on to a law school, which is a graduate level program. To apply to law school, you do not need to major in any particular subject, although political science, history and philosophy are common majors for those intending to go on to law school.

There are many excellent colleges and universities in Southern California, and across the country. I'd suggest you start your search by going to www.collegeboard.org and looking at the resources under the student section. I also write a blog on the college search and admissions process that includes links to hundreds of college search tools.

Good luck!
