Your question is rather should I believe what my boss tells me?
If you resonate with this, read on...
You got a choice. You either "buy" what he tells you
or you "do not buy" this.
If you DON'T BUY IT, he will feel your courage and he will not have the courage to attack you.
When you believe what he tells you he throws you into fear to control you. But in reality he is out of control trying to reestablish control by controling you. If you go into courageousness you override him with a much more powerful energy and you won the game.
If you "BUY IT", you start to believe what he tells you but on a more subconstient level you start to tell yourself the same thing your boss tells you and repeating this it becomes the mantra "I can't" and then indeed this become your reality. You lose. You play fear, weak, letting him to control you. You enter the world of I can't and you start living your story, get out of control discouraged, looking for approval, lack of confidence and all that paraphernalia of negativity.
Just watch yourself and catch it anytime you say "I can't".
If you understand this answer, read on...
Now knowing this go to the next step.
Maybe your boss(or anyone else) told you this once. Check and see how many times you tell it to yourself during the day. If you are keen and perceptive which comes from being alert the story of "I can't".
If you really can UNDERSTAND this, give yourself approval and love and watch what happens. Best of luck to you!

Maybe you can multi-task in some situations, but it sounds like what the boss is really trying to express is that he is not satisfied with your job performance. Two possible solutions would be to look for another job before you are fired, or to tell him that the "can't multi-task" comment was a little vague and you would like a more specific critique of your performance with a concrete list of areas in which you must improve. Do take some kind of action, or you will be on an unemployment line soon.

There is nothing for you to believe or not to believe him. The question here is can you be multi-tasked and perform it well?

Depends. How many tasks can you complete at one time without getting side-tracked? You can always prove him wrong by showing him you can do it.
