Ok, so this is the order in which the events of Star Wars happened
1. Phantom Menace
2. Attack of the Clones
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. A New Hope
5. Empire Strikes Back
6. Return of the Jedi
This is the order they were released in starting with 1977's
1. A New Hope
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Phantom Menace
5. Attack of the Clones
6. Revenge of the Sith
Everything is sort of explained in A New Hope. You are given the basis of the story. New questions arise in this movie and more backstory is given throughout the entire series. So everything is explained in each movie.
It's really confusing, I know.

I'm not really sure what you mean. Episode IV was the first one that came out and it really layed the foundation for the franchise. That being said when Lucas made the other movies he tweaked the foundation and some things are at odds between episode I and episode IV. For me, I stick with the info from the first movie released (episode IV).

In 'A New Hope', Obi-wan basically explained it all when he was talking to Luke Skywalker.
