Because if it was not there, there would not be a planet between Mercury and Earth.

It is also what can happen with a runaway greenhouse effect.

very similar to earth in size, but drastically different in atmosphere, humongous grand canyon, extreme tempatures, sulphuric acid clouds!

i once landed there to do ship checkup. it's pretty bland, i'd say it's not important, but it's a good place to stop and rest.
